What is this, in plain English?

A monthly subscription, delivered remotely. Each day your site files and database are copied to storage held separately from your hosting; 30 days of versions are kept; every quarter we restore one and send you the written result. Restores you request are performed by us. It renews monthly until you cancel.

An untested backup is a rumour. This plan takes daily backups to storage separate from your hosting, keeps a versioned history so you can go back past the point a problem started, and runs a quarterly test restore into a scratch environment — which is the only way to know the backups are usable. It is a recurring plan, not a one-off setup: you are paying for the backups to keep running and being checked every month.

The problem it solves

You believe there are backups somewhere, nobody has ever tried restoring one, and they may be on the same server as the site.

If that does not describe you, this is probably the wrong product. Tell us and we will point you at a better fit rather than sell you the nearest one.

What you get

The concrete things that exist at the end and that you own.

What does it do?

Everything listed here is delivered as part of this product. Nothing on this list is aspirational.

  • Daily file and database backups
  • Off-site storage, independent of your host
  • 30-day versioned retention
  • Quarterly verified test restores
  • Restore-on-request performed by us
  • Failure alerting when a backup does not complete

How it works

The delivery sequence from order to handover.

  1. 1

    Set up storage

Off-site destination configured, separate from your hosting provider.

  2. 2

    Schedule backups

Daily files and database, with retention configured.

  3. 3

    Verify the first restore

A restore is tested immediately, not assumed.

  4. 4

    Monitor

Failed backups raise an alert instead of passing unnoticed.

  5. 5

    Test quarterly

A documented test restore every quarter, with the result sent to you.

Delivery & fulfilment

Full detail of how work is handed over, what happens if requirements are outstanding and how order records are kept is in the Delivery & Fulfilment Policy.

What we need from you

Nothing starts until these are in place, and the turnaround above is measured from that point — not from the moment you pay.

  • Server or hosting access sufficient for automated backup, provided at onboarding
  • A written list of what is in scope — which site, which database, which directories
  • A named contact to receive failure alerts and quarterly test reports

Who this is for

  • Businesses relying on hosting-provider backups alone
  • Sites where content loss would be expensive
  • Anyone who has never tested a restore
  • Businesses wanting an independent copy of their own site

Business needs this addresses: Improve IT infrastructure

What's not included

Just as plainly as the list above: the things this package is not.

  • Storage beyond 20 GB, available as an add-on
  • Backup of systems, mailboxes or devices outside the agreed site
  • Recovery of data that was never backed up — for example, changes made after the last backup ran
  • Hosting fees, which you pay to your provider directly
  • Out-of-hours restores; restores are performed during working hours

Anything outside the scope above is quoted separately, in writing, before it is carried out. Nothing is added to your bill without your agreement.

FAQs

Our host says they do backups.

Many do, on the same infrastructure as your site, with no restore testing and sometimes only a few days of retention. An independent copy protects you against the host itself failing or an account being suspended.

How fast is a restore?

We aim to start within the same working day of your request and, for a business site of ordinary size, complete it within a few hours. It is a target rather than a guarantee: a very large site or a hosting provider that is itself down will take longer, and we will not pretend otherwise.

What happens to my backups if I cancel?

Tell us before the final period ends and we will hand you a copy of the most recent backup to keep. After the plan ends we stop taking new backups and the stored copies are deleted at the end of the retention period, so take the copy while the plan is still running.

Refund & cancellation

How this plan is cancelled, and what happens to money already paid.

Cooling-off before work starts
You have 7 days after ordering to cancel while work has not yet begun. Up to 25% may be retained to cover scoping and scheduling already carried out.
Cancelling this plan
It continues, period after period, until you cancel in writing. A monthly plan needs 30 days' notice. The service runs to the end of the period you have already paid for.
Work already done
Once delivery has started, refunds are assessed against the work completed and the deliverables already handed over — the list under “what you get” above is what that assessment is made against. Approved refunds are processed within 14 days.
If we cannot deliver what is described here
You are refunded. The scope on this page is the scope we are held to, which is exactly why the exclusions above are stated before you buy rather than after.

The full terms, item type by item type, are in the Refund & Cancellation Policy — see subscriptions. How the work reaches you is covered by the Delivery & Fulfilment Policy.
